He learned the importance of chair side manner and the effect that it has on patients. He understands the fear that some patients have when seeing a dentist and has a natural ability to put them at ease.

Dr. Gregg Taira enjoys bowling, golfing, softball, skiing, and woodworking.

Dr. Janine Taira works alongside her father Dr. Gregg Taira in Gaithersburg and Potomac, providing comprehensive dental care for the same Montgomery County patients that her father and grandfather served. She uses her love of art and attention to detail to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. She loves helping new and old friends alike with an honest, thorough explanation.

Dr. Janine Taira believes that prevention starts at home and spends time personally evaluating each patient's home care strengths and weaknesses, discussing and making specific recommendations based on the individual.

Dr. Janine Taira followed in Dr. Gregg Taira's footsteps and earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

A first-class student throughout her educational career, Dr. Janine Taira graduated summa cum laude from University of Maryland with a major in Neurobiology and Physiology. She continued her pursuit of excellence into dental school with acceptance into the Diamond Scholar program, an exclusive training program only available to a few top students in their fourth year of school.

In the Diamond Scholar advanced clinical training program, Dr. Janine Taira treated patients in the University of Maryland’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program. Through an ambitious clinical curriculum, Diamond Scholars performed nearly twice as many procedures as typical fourth year students.

Dr. Janine Taira is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Gorgas Odontological Honor Society, the Maryland State Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.

What's up with the butterfly?

The Taira Family Crest: Agehanocho, the Swallowtail butterfly

Our last name comes from the Taira clan, one of the four main clans ruling Japan in the Heian period. After a period of military rule, our ancestors moved from mainland Japan to Okinawa, and many generations later, Calvin Taira’s parents emigrated from Okinawa to the US.

In honor of our strong family values, our logo is derived from the mon, or family crest of the Taira clan. A stylized version of the original crest is pictured here: a swallowtail butterfly called Agehanocho. The logo is meant to mimic the wings of the butterfly.
